There's a new model year knocking on our door, and that means it's time to see which of the most popular light-duty pickup trucks wins out amongst drivers across the areas of Sioux Falls, Belle Fourche, and Rapid City, SD. When it comes to pickups in this class, there's absolutely no question that two automotive manufacturers lead the pack every year: Ram and Ford.

This year's models of the 2019 Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 both bring solid performance and great features to the table. Which one will drivers prefer, however, in terms of overall package offered? Let's put the 2019 Ram 1500 vs. Ford F-150 in a clash of the titans and see which one emerges victorious.

2019 Ram 1500 vs Ford F-150

Performance is the key factor when examining any pickup truck. People buy these vehicles because they want to tow and haul materials and handle difficult terrain. If that's what you're looking for, you're looking at the 2019 Ram 1500. Its 3.6L V6 base engine delivers 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque while the Ford F-150's base 3.3L V6 engine only gives you 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque.

You can also opt for a powerful 5.7L HEMI® V8 engine with the Ram 1500 which puts out 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, and while a comparable powerful engine is available on the Ford, you only get it at the most expensive trim levels. Overall, for the vast majority of drivers, the F-150 can't compete with the engine power of the Ram 1500.

This superior performance extends to towing as well. Equipped with the base engine, the Ram 1500 can handle 6,280 pounds as compared to Ford's base-level towing capacity of only 5,000 pounds. Again, getting the most out of your Ford means paying for the most expensive trim levels while the Ram offers power and luxury even at the base level.

Comfort and Luxury

While power may be the key factor in buying your pickup, comfort, technology, and luxury are also prime concerns these days. After all, if your truck can be comfortable and stylish as well as a workhorse, why not? The passenger volume on the new Ram 1500 is up to 117 cubic feet compared to a mere 65 cubic feet in the Ford F-150.

Offering outstanding technology features like voice recognition, several USB ports, proximity key access, remote keyless entry, keyless access, and heated side mirrors, the Ram stands above the competition. It also has six speakers for solid levels of music.

None of these features are available in the new F-150 which doesn't even give you Bluetooth® at the base level. That's a major oversight on Ford's part, as they're among the very few vehicles left that don't at least let you sync your phone at the base level. Ford just doesn't prioritize infotainment, coming with only four speakers at the base level.
