For example, oil changes are one of the many factors worth keeping an eye on.

Oil Change & Regular Inspection

This article will be breaking down the necessary maintenance needs of your Jeep Cherokee depending on the mileage. However, there are some fairly regular needs that must be addressed if your Jeep is going to continue running at peak performance.

Chief among these needs is a proper oil change. It is recommended that you change your oil between every 5,000-6,000 miles. A lot of variables also go into this. If you are often driving in harsh conditions, such as extreme heat or cold, or if you routinely go off-roading, you may want to get your oil changed more regularly to help ease stress on the engine.

While getting your oil changed, it's a good time to take a look at some other maintenance features on your Jeep Cherokee, such as:

  • Windshield washer fluid level
  • Tire pressure and tire wear or damage
  • Fluid levels of coolant reservoir and brake cylinder
  • Inspect engine air cleaner if using in dusty or off-road conditions
  • Inspect exhaust system
  • Inspect brake pads

Every 20,000 Miles or 2 Years

After you've logged 20,000 miles your Jeep Cherokee will need to be inspected for some routine maintenance. This needs to be done not only after the first 20,000 miles, but after every 20,000 miles or roughly every 2 years.

At this point, your Jeep is going to need some specific inspections done to ensure the well-being of your vehicle moving forward. These include:

  • Inspect CV joints
  • Inspect front suspension and boot seals.
  • Inspect brake linings and parking brake function
  • Replace air conditioning/ cabin air filter

Every 60,000 Miles or 6 Years

At this point, it's a good idea to take your Jeep Cherokee in for an extensive inspection. While your vehicle may be running as good as the day you bought it, this inspection has to do with preventing future issues as much as it has to do with repairing any current issues.

The list of inspections at this stage include:

  • Inspecting CV joints
  • Tie rod ends and replace if necessary
  • Inspect front suspension and boot seals
  • Inspect brake linings and parking brake functions
  • Replace engine air clean filter
  • Replace cabin air filter
  • Inspect engine cooling system protection and hoses

Every 100,000 Miles or 10 Years

Once you've eclipsed the 100,000 miles limit, you'll want to take your Jeep Cherokee in for some important maintenance that will help ensure performance over the next 100,000 miles.

Along with the inspections listed under the 60,000-mile marker, you'll also see a few additions to the list, such as:

  • Inspect front accessory drive belt, tensioner, idler pulley, and replace if necessary
  • Replace spark plugs
  • Flush and replace engine coolant
  • Inspect and replace PCV valve
